Maximising the environment for the high yielding cow Jamie Robertson - Cumbria

When: October 24th 2018 10:30 to 14:30
Location: CA13 0UW

AHDB is running a series of practical workshops that will focus on ventilation and also incorporate other aspects of the cow’s environment including feed space and cow comfort to help farmers optimise the environment to maximise herd performance.

In high yielding, all year round calving herds, marginal gains can have a big impact on the bottom line. The limiting factor is rarely the genetic potential of the cow but the environment in which she can express her potential. Buildings often become the bottle-neck due to the cost to replace them.

The Workshop:

A practical on farm session, limited to a maximum of 25 attendees. Aimed at farmers with housed herds of high yielding cows. Lunch and refreshments are included.

Outcomes:

  • Assess your own building to identify the restrictions in ventilation, feed space and cow comfort
  • Maximise productivity from your current building
  • Avoid the pitfalls and impacts of new building designs
  • The cost/benefit of building modification
