EU Producer Numbers

  • The number of dairy producers in the EU- 27 fell by 6.2% between the 2012/13 and 2013/14 milk years.
  • Romania saw the largest fall in dairy producer numbers - falling by 30,345 (9.1%) between 2012/13 and 2013/14.
  • The largest fall in percentage terms was in Bulgaria where the producer numbers fell by 15.8% (1,708 producers).

26 countries saw a year on year decrease between 2012/13 and 2013/14. Ireland was the only exception with an increase of 3.2% (587 producers). Poland and Romania accounted for 52.0% of the total number of producers in the 27 current Member States, with Romania alone accounting for 35.2%.

Romania experienced the largest fall in dairy producer numbers between 2012/13 and 2013/14 falling by 30,345 (9.1%) to 304,692. In percentage terms however the largest fall was seen in Bulgaria where the producer numbers fell by 15.8% (1,708 producers). The UK saw a decrease of 444 producers (3.1%).
