DairyCo, EBLEX, BGS and the organising committee of EGF2014 have teamed up to bring you a series of presentations and videos from the event including three live webinars from internationally renowned speakers.

The first in a series of three webinars will take place on Monday 8 September at 18:00. Improving Varieties, Improving Grassland Farming – is led by Dr Trevor Gilliland of Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute, Northern Ireland. Who will discuss:

  • What has grass breeding achieved in four decades?
  • Translating developments in grass breeding into animal performance?
  • Quality assurance – why do farmers need Recommended Lists?
  • Understanding seeds mixtures – The science behind the mystery!
  • Reseeding – Which varieties? Which mixture type? What benefits?
  • Variety Clinic – your questions answered

The second takes place on Tuesday 9 September at 18:00. In the webina Grazing and Robotic Milking Systems - Dr Valérie Brocard of Institut de l'Elevage in France will cover:

  • Robotic milking and grazing – can it work?
  • Managing grazing in robotic systems
  • Mobile robotic milking systems – a solution to fragmented land?
  • Novel techniques for measuring grazing time and dry matter intake in dairy cows

In the third webinar of the series, ‘The benefits of using novel crops for beef and sheep production’, on 10 September at 18:00, Dr Christina Marley, from Animal Systems Research Group, Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences will examine what the research has to say about the value of home-grown feeds to:

  • improve livestock performance
  • reduce fertiliser use
  • maintain animal health
