The Algerian government has launched its latest tender for the import of milk powders, which could see EU suppliers benefit. Algeria is an important market for the EU, accounting for 11% of all EU milk powder exports in 2013. In the last round of tenders earlier this year a number of EU countries, including the UK, were awarded sales. EU exporters have the potential to retain or increase their current share due to their current price competitiveness. EU milk powder production is up significantly this year, helping to absorb some of the growth in milk deliveries as well as the surplus milk diverted from cheese production in light of the Russian import ban. This latest tender has the potential to take some of the extra stocks off of the European market.
