The government has announced measures to grant the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) the power to impose fines of up to 1% of annual turnover on supermarkets found to be in breach of the Groceries Code. The code governs fair dealing with the supermarkets’ direct suppliers including terms of supply, timing of payments and marketing costs. The changes will not govern issues related to pricing. The new measures will now go through the usual parliamentary process before officially coming into force.
