The Irish dairy herd has grown a further 4% in 2014, with cow numbers reaching 1,128 thousand. This is the fourth consecutive year-on-year increase and the highest number of dairy cows for over 10 years. Ireland has continually increased cattle numbers since 2010 on the back of the Food Harvest 2020 report, released that year, which proposed a target to increase milk production by 50% in 2020.
