Müller to consolidate in Scotland

Müller UK & Ireland aim to shut two factories in Scotland while investing in a third.

The plan, put forward at the start of a 45-day consultation period, would see Aberdeen and East Kilbride dairies close and a £15m investment over 3 years in Bellshill.

Müller has stated that the Aberdeen facility is not performing anywhere near capacity, with circa. 60% being unused. Closing it along with East Kilbride (where products such as flavoured milks and potted cream are made) and moving the milk flow to Bellshill will improve efficiency and competitiveness of the company’s Scottish operation.

If the plan was to go through, 43 farmers supplying Müller’s Aberdeen facility would receive a 1.75ppl transport charge if they wish to stay with the German owned company. Alternatively, they could avoid the transport charge if they hand in their notice, ending supply to the dairy 12 months later.
