FAO food price index lowest in 6 years

The FAO Food Price Index* has fallen to the lowest level since April 2009, at 154.1 in December 2015. The Dairy Price Index too has fallen and is similar to the levels seen in the first half of 2009.

Decembers’ decline was a result of a reduction in SMP and WMP prices. The FAO reported an increase in the butter price and an unchanged cheese price, however, these could not counteract the fall in powder prices.
