Will EU cheese exporters run to Iran?

Published 28 July 15

The potential removal of sanctions against Iran could open up a new market for European cheese exporters. The country has a relatively young population of around 80 million, facing limited choice in dairy products due to restrictions on imports. However, according to Euromonitor, cheese consumption grew during 2014 as people bought more packaged food products. With a per capita consumption of 80 kilograms per year, lower than the global average of 165 kilograms, there may be opportunities for European exporters to develop this market.
