Cost of the drought clarification

We recently published an Agricultural Drought Impact document which looked at figures based on 1995 data - the last time GB faced a similar weather situation.

This week Kite Consultancy published a document about the impact of the drought, which considers a number of scenarios. Kite Consultancy conclude that the overall impact on the cost of production will range from 2ppl+ to 3ppl+ depending on when the drought breaks.

The full impact of the drought won’t become clear until much later in the year. The knock-on impact on silage stocks, feed costs, milk quality and cow fertility will be much longer-lasting. It is likely to be many months before we get a full picture of how much the drought will cost farmers and the industry.
