World dairy production and trade to grow in 2015

Published 2 June 15

Growth in world milk production is still on the cards, with the FAO predicting a 2% increase for 2015 to 805 million tonnes (782 billion litres).  Most of this increase is expected to come from developing countries such as India, China, Pakistan and Turkey, where it will be used to meet growing demand. The FAO forecasts also show some supply growth in Europe, Australia and the US, although at much lower rates while they predict New Zealand’s 2015 production to be roughly the same as last year. As consumption levels in developed countries such as Europe, Oceania and North America are unlikely increase fast enough to use up the additional milk supplies, this will lead to an increase in exports during 2015.
