AHDB Information on the use of Glyphosate

Published 4 July 16

The Chemical Regulations Directorate (CRD) confirmed yesterday (29 June) the approval for glyphosate use within the EU has been extended for a maximum of 18 months.

The new approval period starts on 1 July 2016 and will end either six months from the date of receipt of the opinion of the Committee for Risk Assessment of the European Chemicals Agency by the Commission or 31 December 2017, whichever is earlier.

The amendment to the existing regulation implementing the use of glyphosate will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union today (30 June), meaning there will be no interruption to approved use of the active.

As part of an ongoing programme of work, AHDB is reviewing current information on glyphosate usage across agricultural and horticultural crops, including grassland and forage, the associated economics of UK glyphosate use and alternative modes of action.

Current information on glyphosate published on AHDB sector websites remains valid. AHDB will continue to update levy payers on important developments and information as it becomes available.
