  • Japan to import butter to avoid meltdown28 May 2015
    The Japanese government has announced plans for emergency imports of butter following a warning from the Japan Dairy Association of a shortfall in supply of around 7,000 tonnes.
  • First Milk new pricing system explained28 May 2015
    Next week will see the introduction of a new payment system by First Milk (FM) which involves a change to the number of pricing schedules the co-op offers and the way prices are determined. The change is part of the continued efforts of FM to cut costs and improve cash flow.

    Today (27 May) the Scottish government have announced they have made funds available for First Milk in order to provide support for dairy farmers, totalling approximately £465,000.

    Skimmed milk powder (SMP) produced within the EU accounted for just under a third of all global exports of SMP during 2014, up from 22% the previous year.

    Laura Trott, Sunday 24 May, claimed victory in this year’s elite women’s Milk Race while Kristian House claimed the first prize in the elite men’s race.

    Proposed changes to the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction’s operations will be put out to public consultation in a few weeks’ time.
  • UK milk production peak up 1 million litres26 May 2015
    UK daily milk deliveries reached a peak of 44.8 million litres on the 26 April. This represents an increase of almost 1 million litres (2.2%) on the peak in 2014.
