Arla launches farm assurance scheme in UK

Arla Foods is rolling out its farm assurance programme, Arlagården, in the UK in October, which includes standards on medicine and antibiotic use. The scheme requires farms to continue to meet Red Tractor standards, as well as sixteen additional measures. This includes a requirement to only use antibiotics to cure or alleviate disease, rather than to prevent it.

Arla suppliers in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg are already operating under the standards. Arla says extending the scheme to include its UK milk will increase its ability to compete in global export markets, as well as enhancing its reputation for quality within its home markets.
