Dairy cow prices fall as demand looks weak

GB dairy cow and heifer average prices fell around a fifth in the twelve months to August, despite the average number sold remaining similar year-on-year. This suggests demand for dairy cattle has decreased, particularly as farmgate prices have fallen significantly over the same period.

With pressure on milk prices continuing and farmers looking at winter costs, demand for dairy cattle could remain sluggish over the coming months.
