Interest-free loans for heat recovery

Published 26 April 10

Heat recovered from milk cooling systems can be used to pre-heat washing water giving energy savings of up to 60% according to The Carbon Trust.  And the energy savings could equate to £650 per year for a 150 cow dairy herd.  One way to finance installation of a heat recovery unit is to get a Carbon Trust zero interest loan.

"There is a great pressure on dairy farmers to reduce costs and their carbon footprint," says DairyCo product manager Kate Cross. "Heat recovery is a simple and effective way to achieve this and a Carbon Trust interest-free loan is an excellent way to fund an installation."
