Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In November 2016, 11,123 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, a decrease of 410 million litres (3.6%) on November 2015. However, cumulative figures from January to November 2016 are up 0.8% compared with the same period in 2015.

Please note Belgium data is estimated from September 2016. Data for some member states is provisional for some months. Figures from January 2007 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown. Values in the text may differ to the table due to rounding.

EU Milk Deliveries 

Comparisons between November 2015 and 2016 showed that 19 of the EU-28 member states saw a decrease in deliveries.

The five largest milk producing members in November 2016 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Poland) produced a combined figure of 7,137 million litres, down 4.7% on last year. The cumulative figures for these countries from January to November 2016 are up 0.4% compared with the same period in 2015. These five countries contributed 64.2% of the total milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

Cyprus saw the largest percentage increase on the year at 24.1% (3.3 million litres). The UK saw a decrease of 7.3% (84.6 million litres).

The November EU weighted average milk price stood at €31.63/100kg (28.31ppl), up €1.70/100kg (5.7%) on the previous month. In pence per litre, the price was up on October by 0.84ppl (3.1%). Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for November was up €0.69/100kg (2.2%), although this was an increase on the year of 5.79ppl (25.7%).
