Presentations on the future demand for milk in the UK in the post-quota era and Lean Management in Dairy were given by DairyCo at this year’s RABDF Business Debate arena. Covering the catalysts which will determine the demand for milk in the future, Senior Analyst Patty Clayton highlighted that UK market demand for milk will not be directly impacted by the removal of production quotas.  Rather, what will change will the level of competition the industry is exposed to in the marketplace, emphasising the importance of efficiency along the whole dairy supply chain.

Rachael Chamberlayne, Senior Product Manager for Dairy Economics, and Dr George Fisher, RADA manager for Reaseheath College, presented the concept and work done on Lean Management for dairy farming businesses. The principles of Lean Management are to eliminate and prevent the creation of waste, thereby maximising value from the best use of input. The benefits arise from increased operations efficiency and, crucially, improved profitability.
