Two Members Reappointed to AHDB Board

Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Board members, Gary Taylor MBE and Gwyn Jones, have been reappointed as Board Members for a second term by UK Ministers with effect from 1 October 2016, having completed their initial term in office.

Gary Taylor, who also chairs the AHDB Horticulture Sector Board, has been given a further two years in office. Gwyn Jones, who also chairs the AHDB Dairy Sector Board, has a further three years.

Peter Kendall, AHDB Board Chairman, said, “I am really pleased Gwyn and Gary have been reappointed for a second term. AHDB and the farming industry are both going through a period of enormous change, so Gwyn’s and Gary’s continued valuable input is really important. I am delighted that they have both agreed to serve a second term and ensure that we deliver ever greater value for money for levy payers in the coming years.”

Gwyn Jones biography: Gwyn Jones was a dairy farmer in West Sussex for over 35 years, running a 200-cow dairy unit (which later became 750 but was eventually reduced to 350), with a 1.5 Megawatt Anaerobic Digester integrated in the farm business. A Nuffield Scholar and Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, Gwyn was the NFU National Dairy Board Chairman for several years and then Vice President. Gwyn served on Milklink Co-op Council, and was also a Main Board Member of Dairy UK, Chairman of Dairy UK Producers’ Forum, and served as Vice Chairman of COPA (Committee of Professional Organisations) Milk Committee in Brussels. Gwyn was a Council member of MDC (Milk Development Council) for seven years; Chairman of MDC Evaluations and MDC Farm Management Committees during that time. He is Chairman of RUMA (Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture Association), he’s an active member of FAWC (Farm Animal Welfare Committee – 3rd term), the BVA’s (British Veterinary Association) Welfare and Ethics Committee, Director of Task 37. Gwyn is currently also an AHDB Main Board Member, Chairman of AHDB Dairy and Chairman of AHDB Volatility Forum. 

Gary Taylor MBE biography: Gary Taylor has worked in the fresh produce industry for over forty years. He started as a seasonal worker and worked his way up in the industry. He moved to Valley Grown Salads (VGS) in Essex in 2000 where he was instrumental in rebuilding the nursery. During the last fourteen years, Gary has also been heavily involved in supporting and developing the wider industry. He has served on a number of boards and committees including as Vice Chair of the NFU Board for Horticulture, Chairman of the East Anglian Horticulture Board and Chairman of the Red Tractor Technical Advisory Committee working standards group (TAC) for horticulture and as a member of the AHDB Horticulture sector board. Gary was the founder and former Chairman of the PTG (Pepper Technology Group) and former Chairman of the LVGA (Lee Valley Grower Association). He is also interim chair of the Horticulture Innovation Partnership (HIP). In 2013, Gary was awarded an MBE for services to the pepper industry.
