EU dairy leaders discuss strategies for growth

Published 21 October 15

Looking forward was the main theme of the recent European Dairy Industry (EDA) forum. Speakers from leading dairy companies agreed that the long term growth prospects for the dairy industry are solid. However, emphasis must be placed on meeting the demands of consumers, whether the market is local or global, to take advantage of this.

For areas with a growing milk deficit, due to increasing incomes or population growth, consumers are looking for a quality food product at a competitive price. In areas where dairy consumption is more stable, consumers want innovative products focused on health, nutrition and sustainability.

The message from the EDA forum was clear – all companies should be looking to gain a competitive advantage and bring value to the market. This can be through improved productivity to remain price competitive or innovation to better meet consumer desires.
