Nearly half of EU exceed quota

Twelve EU nations (see below) are expected to receive a fine for breaching milk quotas when the figures get finalised. The total amount equates to around €818m. Member States have the potential to collect the amount owed over a three year instalment with zero interest rate, to ease the financial pressure on dairy farmers. The UK fell short of quota by 6.1% (approx. 935k litres).
