Risk management workshops and 1:1 consultancy

Is your farm exposed to business risk?

Help your business get in shape for the future with our fully funded workshops

What’s your plan for managing risk? Farming is an inherently risky business and sadly there is no simple solution to deal with every risk.

Whether it’s rising feed costs, milk price volatility, or the threat of disease, risks can have a massive impact on your dairy farming business. Add to the mix a change in political policy, extreme weather events or, simply, family ups and downs, and your farm may not be as competitive or sustainable as you would like.

AHDB Dairy (along with AHDB Beef & Lamb and AHDB Pork) are running a series of workshops as part of a Defra initiative funded under the EU Adjustment Aid Scheme.

While no risk can be fully controlled, identifying threats to your business and having a plan in place to deal with them can give you greater business resilience. Together with some goal setting and establishing objectives, you and your family can be back in the driving seat.

The workshops are designed to be interactive and useful in their own right. They will bring together small groups of livestock farmers across England to cover:

  • How to access 1:1 fully funded on-farm advisor support
  • Understanding the five pillars of managing risk
  • Why having goals and objectives are critical and how to go about setting yours
  • Identifying areas of your business to focus on

If you are a livestock farmer or manager in England who is responsible for long term planning of your business and want to identify and manage risk in your business, this workshop will help set you up. It is also your route to apply for one to one fully funded consultancy to help you focus on key areas of your business.

Webinar

If you are unable to attend a workshop session, an alternative way to access the one-to-one consultancy is to take part in our webinar.

When a date is confirmed for the webinar it will be posted here.

If you are not able to join the webinar, it will be recorded for you to continue to access afterwards. You will need to either attend a workshop or join/watch the webinar to access the one-to-one consultancy.

One-to-one fully funded consultancy

At the workshops above you will be able to sign-up for one-to-one consultancy from a business advisor experienced in risk management on farm.

This will give you a 3-4 hour session in which the advisor will work with you to complete an analysis of the areas you identified in the workshop you would like to work on and produce with you an action plan.

This action plan will be for you to work on. It will also be used in the final workshop to drive the discussion on how practically you can make changes.

The one-to-one consultancy is only available to livestock farmers (dairy, beef, sheep and/or pigs) in England.
