Feed waste

Feeding livestock is one of the largest variable costs in milk production on British dairy farms. Yet, international data suggests that up to six percent of concentrate feed and twenty percent of forage feed can be wasted on dairy farms, reducing farm efficiency and adding to the cost of milk production.

What steps can be taken to reduce the amount of feed wasted? AHDB Dairy has a range of information and resources which explore the options available to help reduce feed waste, from strategies for a successful crop harvest through to feeding the animal. These steps, whilst apparently simple in their implementation can make a significant impact on feed waste and feed cost on farm, ultimately aiding in the profitability of the business.
