Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In May 2016, 13,722 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, an increase of 112 million litres (0.8%) on May 2015.

Please note Belgium data is estimated from January 2016. Data for some member states is provisional for some months. Figures from January 2007 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown. Values in the text may differ to the table due to rounding.

EU Milk Deliveries 

Comparisons between May 2015 and 2016 showed that 16 of the EU-28 member states saw an increase in deliveries.

The five largest milk producing members in May 2016 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Poland) produced a combined figure of 8,520 million litres. These five countries contributed 62.1% of the total milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

Cyprus saw the largest percentage increase on the year at 29.0% (4.0 million litres). In contrast, Slovakia was down 6.2% (4.7 million litres).

The May EU weighted average milk price stood at €26.15/100kg (20.97ppl), down €1.23/100kg (4.5%) on the previous month. In pence per litre, the price was down on April by 1.39ppl (6.2%). Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for May was down €4.58/100kg (14.9%), this was a decrease on the year of 1.90ppl. For more information on EU milk prices click here.
