Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In March 2015, 12,260 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, a decrease of 142 million litres (1.1%) on March 2014. For the milk year beginning April 2014, there is a cumulative year on year increase of 2.6%. Compared with the previous month, there is an increase of 1454 million litres (13.5%) following seasonal trends.

Please note Spanish data is provisional from January 2010 and estimated for January to March 2015, French data is provisional from January 2013, Italian data is provisional from July 2014, Latvian is provisional from February 2014, UK data is provisional from January 2007. Data from Belgium since January 2015 is estimated by Eurostat.

Figures from January 2007 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown.

EU Milk Deliveries

 

Comparisons between March 2014 and March 2015 showed that 16 of the EU-28 member states showed a decrease in deliveries.

The five largest milk producing members in March 2015 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Italy) produced a combined figure of 7,958 million litres. These five countries contributed 64.9% of the total milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

Italy showed the largest year on year increase in percentage terms, with March 2015 deliveries at 908 million litres - an increase of 66 million litres (7.9%). The UK increased on the year by 5 million litres (0.4%).

The March EU weighted average milk price stood at €31.57/100kg (23.49ppl), down €0.29/100kg (0.9%) on the previous month. Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for March was down €7.75/100kg (19.7%), this was a decrease on the year of 10.16ppl. For more information on EU milk prices click here.
