Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In February 2016, 11,946 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, an increase of 1,091 million litres (10.0%) on February 2015.
  • Cumulative production for April 2015 to February 2016 increased by 5,379 million (4.1%) compared with the same period in 2014/15, to reach 136,708 million litres.

Please note Spanish data is provisional from Eurostat for January 2010. French data is provisional from January 2013, Italian data is provisional from January 2015 and UK data is provisional from January 2007. 

Figures from January 2007 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown. Values in the text may differ to the table due to rounding.

EU28 Milk Production 

Comparisons between February 2015 and February 2016 showed that all of the EU-28 member states saw an increase in deliveries.

The five largest milk producing members in December 2015 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Italy) produced a combined figure of 7,758 million litres. These five countries contributed 64.9% of the total milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

Ireland saw the largest percentage increase on the year at 42.2% (90.9 million litres). In contrast,  Sweden was up just 2.8% (6 million litres).

  • The March EU weighted average milk price stood at €28.10/100kg (22.59ppl), down €1.15/100kg (3.9%) on the previous month. In pence per litre, the price was down on February by 0.75ppl (3.2%). Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for March was down €3.41/100kg (10.8%), this was a decrease on the year of 0.86ppl.
