Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

  • In November 2015, 11,538 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, an increase of 541 million litres (4.9%) on November 2014.
  • Cumulative production for April to November 2015 increased by 3,172 million litres (3.3%) compared with the same period in 2014, to reach 100,443 million litres.

Please note Spanish data is provisional from Eurostat for January 2010. French data is provisional from January 2013, Italian data is provisional from January 2015, Latvian is provisional for November 2015 and UK data is provisional from January 2007. Data from Belgium since July 2015 is estimated by Eurostat.

Figures from January 2007 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown. Values in the text may differ to the table due to rounding.

EU Milk Deliveries

Comparisons between November 2014 and November 2015 showed that just 6 of the EU-28 member states saw a decrease in deliveries.

The five largest milk producing members in November 2015 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Poland) produced a combined figure of 7,507 million litres. These five countries contributed 65.1% of the total milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

The Netherlands, Ireland and Germany all saw large increases on the year at 131, 109 and 110 million litres respectively. However, the largest decrease was seen by Italy by 62 million litres in November 2015 compared with November 2014.

The November EU weighted average milk price stood at €30.78/100kg (22.40ppl), up €0.24/100kg (0.8%) on the previous month. In pence per litre, the price was down on October by 0.64ppl (2.8%). Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for November was down €3.65/100kg (10.6%), this was a decrease on the year of 5.61ppl. For more information on EU milk prices click here.
