The UK butter trade balance saw a substantial improvement in 2014 resulting from the dual effect of export growth and reduced imports. This suggests the UK has strengthened its competitiveness against butter from abroad, perhaps as a result of investments in processing capacity.

In addition, the proportion of UK origin butter in our domestic supply increased from 65% to 67% in the twelve months to November 2014, suggesting UK butter has displaced some imports.
