GDT index falls again

Published 5 August 15

The downward slide of dairy product prices continued at the latest global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction (4 August 2015).  The weighted average price fell 9.3% to $1,813/tonne across all products, as product availability remains in excess to demand.  The overall drop was mainly the result of large drops in the price indexes for skim and whole milk powders which fell by 14.4% and 10.3% respectively.

Volumes offered at the auction increased in line with seasonal patterns, but buyer interest remains weak. There are around 20% fewer buyers participating in the auction this year compared to the past last year.
