GDT: Fats fall but powders rally

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) price index rose 0.4% at the 5 December event, breaking a 4-event run of declines. This increase was led by powders, with WMP and SMP both up and accounting for about three quarters of volume sold.

Meanwhile there were declines for fats. The Butter price index in particular fell 11.1%, putting the average butter price at 4,575 USD/tonne. This is a 24% fall from the peak average price (6,026 USD/tonne on 19 September 2017), but is 21% above the 5-year average price (3,778 USD/tonne).
