Dairy UK releases strategy to improve exports

Published 4 February 16

Dairy UK has published an export strategy aiming to help open new opportunities and further grow UK dairy exports. The report identifies 17 recommendations to improve the UK dairy industry’s export performance, as well as looking at best practice in other dairy exporting nations.

For the UK to continue to grow its exports, it needs to be internationally competitive and make sure its products meet customer requirements, according to the report. This requires whole supply-chain competitiveness, continued company investment in product and process innovation, as well as developing and promoting the UK’s food safety and environmental credentials.

The need to improve export certification processes and plant inspection/audit practices has also been identified, which will require input from Defra. Dairy UK has welcomed Defra’s recent “Great British Food Unit” initiative to increase UK food exports, and hopes to work within this structure to help drive dairy exports.
