US milk production forecast to increase in 2016
Published 17 February 16
The US Department of Agriculture increased its milk production estimate for 2016 to 99.2bn litres in February’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, up less than 0.1% of the previous 2016 forecast. If February’s estimate comes into fruition, it would amount to 1.8bn litres more than 2015. This increase occurs on the back of a larger dairy cow inventory as of 1 January 2016 and a forecast increase in milk per cow during the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the all milk price forecast was adjusted slightly lower to $15.30-$16.00/cwt or 24.12-25.22ppl, assuming an exchange rate of £1.00 to $1.44, partly due to wholesale price movements.
