Irish production rise leads to estimated €69 million superlevy bill

Irish milk production finished the 2014/15 milk year almost 200 million litres up on last year, leading to an expected superlevy bill of around €69 million. This 3.6% rise in annual production puts Ireland an estimated 4.3% over quota, although finalised quota figures will not be available until August.

Milk production was very strong in the first half of the year and as a result Ireland was estimated to be around 7.1% over quota in October. However production was pulled back sharply from November, reducing the impact of Ireland’s final superlevy bill. Now quota constraints have been removed the Irish look set to make the most of the opportunity to grow their dairy industry.
